Ensign Malcolm Trowbridge, USS Gearing Plankowner, took a number of photos during his 1945-1946 tour of duty aboard the Gearing and his wife Beverly saw to it that that the pictures and memories of his Navy service would be preserved for generations to come. In 1995, three years after Malcolm's passing, "Grandma Beverly Trowbridge" wrote for her family "Memories of Stories Told by Grandpa Malcolm Trowbridge, Jr. of his Navy period June 1944 - June 1946." Many thanks to Beverly Trowbridge, who has also generously shared with us, see below, the photos taken by Ensign Trowbridge in 1945 and 1946.
Many captions written on the front or back of each snapshot are reprinted below the photos in this presentation, with some additional detail included by the web page editor. Help is needed to put names on all the Gearing sailors in these photos. It is likely that most of them are plankowners. We will add to the captions as we learn more details. Email this web page editor, Don Provost donprov@optonline.net, with all the information you have! Mention each photo by its number.
