Early in 2009 Pequannock Township appealed to the public for money to pay for a roadside marker on West Parkway. This was the place where, in 1944-45, a rocket engine that later powered Chuck Yeager and the X-15 past the sound barrier was built and tested.

EAA Chapter 501 took an active interest in the commemorative marker project, but local senior citizens stepped forward with the funding as detailed in the Bergen Record story below.
